In 2018 Maria Grazia Chiuri built a Dior collection around Niki de Saint Phalle, the French-American artist behind the Nanas, the Tarot Garden, and the Shooting Paintings (she shot at bags of paint with a rifle, and the art world eventually agreed that counted). This medium Lady Dior is the piece from that collection that reads most like a love letter: her entire body of work, hand-beaded and embroidered into one heart on red calfskin, with her name stitched above and her signature below.
Look closely and you’ll find a Nana mid-dance, the Tarot Garden, King Kong, and her phrases running around the border: “What is the question,” “A place to pray for all religions.” Champagne gold hardware, D.I.O.R. letter charms, and the beaded hamsa hand charm that came with the collection. It’s a Lady Dior, so it carries like one. It’s also a Lady Dior you will not see on anyone else.
