Some bags announce themselves. This one waits.
From across a room it's the Gold Picotin — the warm tan that Hermès has been getting right since 2002, the bucket shape borrowed from a horse's feed bag, the silhouette that goes with a linen shirt in July and a heavy coat in January. Nothing on the outside tells you it's anything other than the classic.
Then you pick it up, and the inside of both handles is pink.
That's the Éclat: contrasting Swift calfskin sewn into the inner face of the handles and nowhere else. Not the Touch, where the whole handle changes leather. Not the Casaque, where the body splits into two colors. Just a flash of pink that appears when the bag is in your hand and disappears when it's on your shoulder. It's the most private kind of luxury — a detail built for the person carrying it rather than the people watching.
This one was made in 2018, stamped C, in Taurillon Clemence with palladium hardware. The Clemence has aged the way it's supposed to: still full, still supple, no cracking anywhere. The natural suede interior is clean. All four base studs are present and bright.
Two things to know before you buy. The cadena lock and keys are not included, and the price reflects that — the strap threads through the buckle and holds securely for daily use, but if you want the lock, this isn't the one. And there's a small surface abrasion at one bottom corner, along with light sheen along the base edge from being set down over the years. Both are photographed in close-up. They're the honest marks of a bag that was carried rather than stored, and on Clemence they read as character.
